♪ here is something no airline passenger wants to hear from the pilot. oops. >> yeah, apologies all around after a pilot of a southwest 737 jet landed at the wrong airport. now the pilots have been grounded and passengers are speaking out. here is abc's alex perez. >> reporter: for passengers on board southwest 4013, the confusion began when they felt the pilot slam on the brakes. >> we landed and stopped abruptly. >> it quickly became clear there was a problem. >> the pilot came on and says, sorry folks, but we have landed at the wrong airport. >> boeing 737 packed with 124 passengers took off from chicago's midway airport. it was supposed to land in

branson, missouri and the pilot was cleared to land by the tower. instead, he somehow landed here, seven miles away at the much smaller taney county airport. runways face a similar direction. but branson's runway is more than 7,000 feet long and has an overrun zone in case planes go off the runway. the runway at taney is some 3,000 feet shorter and there are steep dropoffs at either end. that's why the pilot slammed on the brakes. the plane cominging to a screeching halt just 300 feet before it would have plunged right over the edge here. >> this could have been bad. this is a runway never intended to take a plane like a 737. it is made out of asphalt, not concrete. it's much shorter. >> the pilot tried to calm panicked passengers. >> people know we're here. we will be taking care of you just as soon as we can. thanks again for your patience. again, i apologize. >> a similar incident in

november when a korgo cargo jet landed at a tiny airport in wichita, kansas. much smaller than mcconnell air force base. the 737 left taney this afternoon as authorities search for answers. authorities hope to have more answers after reviewing the plane's black boxes which have been shipped to d.c. southwest says the pilots of flight 4013 have been grounded until they investigate what went wrong here. alex perez, abc news, branson, missouri. >> been grounded but the captain had a lot of experience. he has been a pilot for 15 years. he and first officer are no longer flying. at least until we get the outcome of the federal investigation. >> yeah. besides the black boxes being analyzed, the ntsb will interview them as well this week. interesting to see what those black boxes say. i would like it hear that dialogue. oops, when did it occur to them. when did the light bulb go off in their head? as they were landing? you wonder. that runway was so short. they must have known at that moment of truth we have to stop this thing in a hurry. >> they didn't have time to kind of readjust and come up with a

>> exactly. moving on to the next story, big dogs get such a bad rap sometimes. you hear all of these -- you hear all these bad stories about them. but this is an uplifting story. great story that shows why people love to have the big protective dogs around. this woman in little rock, named millie, 60 years old. taking her trash out one night. and a guy comes up to her. pushes her. demands her money. and her pitbull, named champ, just happened to be in the yard, barked like crazy and scared the guy off. we have a soundbite from her now. >> i have no doubt that champ saved my life and i know he would literally die for me. >> pretty cool. so champ, called a hero today. >> a former pitbull owner. greatest dog. cliche is true. no bad dogs out there, just bad owners. it really is the truth. this is great story. washington capitals grant a

christie, his wife, and kids. >> we're stronger than the storm. >> they aired in the middle of the governor's reelection campaign. and now, as if he didn't have enough trouble, a second federal investigation totally separate from bridge gate -- wants know, did christie pick an ad agency, nearly twice as expensive, so he could star in the commercials? >> this was a significantly higher bid. and the lower bid refused to include the governor and his family in the ad. >> the losing ad agency says everything in the two bids was apples to apples, except -- >> none of our creative included governor at all. >> while scandal swirls around christie, he's not been seen in public since the marathon news conference. but his office did say the commercials were approved by the obama administration and they worked. also reminding reporters, another high profile governor starred in california commercials. but those were privately funded.

it just isn't fair at all. they murdered my son, and they get away with it. >> after the verdict, prosecutors decided to drop charges against a third officer who was awaiting trial. >> retired tampa police officer charged with second-degree murder after an argument turned deadly at the movies. witnesses say the dispute was over text messages a father was sending to his 3-year-old daughter. here is steve osunsami. >> the shooting happened during the movie previews at a high end movie theater and restaurant chain. >> the sheriff's office got an emergency call in reference to a shooting at this movie theater. there's going to be a lot of people that were inside this theater when this happened. >> police on the scene say that chad olson and his wife, nicole, were there to see "lone survivor" and he was using a cell phone and was texting and making noise. that's when 71-year-old curtis reeves, sitting behind them, got fed up and went to the manager. >> he came back very irritated without theater management.

they started arguing again about the cell phone. the guy who was shot said something, i just was texting my daughter, 3-year-old daughter. >> we are now learning the 71-year-old was a retired tampa police officer. and when he got back to his seat, he fought with the couple and pulled out a gun. >> when somebody throws popcorn, i'm not sure who threw the popcorn, then bang, he was shot. he staggered two seats over, fell on my son and i. >> an off-duty officer kept the accused shooter in the theater until police arrived. reeves is in custody and authorities tell us he could be charged with second-degree homicide. steve osunsami, abc news, atlanta. the trial of a former member of the dallas cowboys charged with the death of a former teammate now under way. josh brent crashed his mercedes in december of 2012 killing his close friend and teammate jerry brown. prosecutors say brent's alcohol level was twice the legal limit that night.

his attorney says his client wasn't drunk at all. if convicted, he faces 20 years in prison. also in court today, attorneys for slugger alex they were filing a lawsuit against major league baseball. now also named in their suit which seeks to overturn a-rod's season-long suspension was the baseball union. the suit claims the union acted in bad faith in hearings that led to the suspension. the union called the charges, quote, baseless. >> tens of millions of target customers have been given an apology over the hacking scandal but it is apparently not enough for capitol hill. in a televised interview, the target ceo apologized directly to customers for the breach and the company's slow response. but democrats in both the house and senate are now calling for hearings, demanding an investigation. an estimated 70 million target customers have been compromised. >> one of the country's oldest brand has been taken over by a japanese company. jim beam. with classic liquor brands it's been marked for the whisky

since it's tuesday morning, we start with last night's episode of "the bachelor." >> juan pablo, continuing his quest to find the woman of his dreams. joining us once again to talk about this is our chief "bachelor" analyst, jack sheen. come on in, buddy. >> i was taking copious notes here. i tell what you, last night's episode of "the bachelor", there were 18 women involved in this whole thing. >> and some drama. >> some drama. first, we start with the less drama, though. first date of the night last night. a woman named claire. a winter wonderland. sledding. skating. the whole nine yard. somewhere along the way, claire actually said, and i quote, he smells like heaven in a bottle. talking about juan pablo right there. >> say that about you too, john? >> you know how it goes. anyway, claire did rather well. she and juan pablo were loving each other.

that's claire right there. she accepted the rose. it's all good. time for the second date. that's when we saw cat and our man juan pablo in the plane. they were flying to salt lake city. excuse me -- they got involved in this thing called the electricity run. which to me, looked like, they said it was a 5k run. looked more like a big dance party when they finally got there. everybody was glowing and stuff like that. there they are. they are doing their running. doing their glowing. you get the idea. everybody liked each other. she accepted the rose. it was all good. and just when you thought to yourself, you know what, this can't possibly be all wine and roses, whole nine yards, then it was time for the group date. and that is when victoria happened. >> oh, boy. interesting. >> this was not good. this was victoria -- >> looks good to me. >> melting it down. probably had a little too much

wine or something. she tried to butt in on juan pablo and somebody else. saw that they were having a discussion. a hasty retreat to the bathroom. it was horrible. somewhere -- then the next day, juan pablo goes and catches up with her. she says, again, i quote, i could have been more adult about it. that was the understatement of the episode. victoria got ousted. now time for the rose ceremony. 15 roses were handed out. not only did victoria go home. a woman named amy and chantel, they're all gone. our girl, renee who we talked about last week, she is still in the thick of things. she is going to win this thing, guaranteed. >> still holding on to that? >> we'll see what happens. all good. >> thank you. coach ditka, break down the bachelor. >> and bonus? 49ers win that game. >> there you go. jack, a man of many talents.

but its landing sunday night was a whole different experience. >> we landed and we kind of stopped abruptly. >> reporter: that's because flight 4013 went to the wrong airport with a much smaller runway. it was supposed to land in branson, missouri, but instead landed seven miles away at the taney county airport. both runways face a similar direction but the taney county runway is more than 3,000 feet shorter. passengers say the pilot slammed on the brakes stopping 300 feet from a cliff. they could even smell the burning tires. >> the pilot came on and said, i'm sorry folks, but we have landed at the wrong airport. >> people know we're here and we will be taking care of you just as soon as we can. thanks again for your patience. again, we apologize. >> reporter: in a written statement southwest airlines says we continue to look into all of the circumstances which led the captain in command of flight 4013 from chicago midway

♪ here is something no airline passenger wants to hear from the pilot. oops. >> yeah, apologies all around after a pilot of a southwest 737 jet landed at the wrong airport. now the pilots have been grounded and passengers are speaking out. here is abc's alex perez. >> reporter: for passengers on board southwest 4013, the confusion began when they felt the pilot slam on the brakes. >> we landed and stopped abruptly. >> it quickly became clear there was a problem. >> the pilot came on and says, sorry folks, but we have landed at the wrong airport. >> boeing 737 packed with 124 passengers took off from chicago's midway airport. it was supposed to land in branson, missouri and the pilot

was cleared to land by the tower. instead, he somehow landed here, seven miles away at the much smaller taney county airport. runways face a similar direction. but branson's runway is more than 7,000 feet long and has an overrun zone in case planes go off the runway. the runway at taney is some 3,000 feet shorter and there are steep dropoffs at either end. that's why the pilot slammed on the brakes. the plane coming to a screeching halt just 300 feet before it would have plunged right over the edge here. >> this could have been bad. this is a runway never intended to take a heavy airplane like a 737. it is made out of asphalt, not concrete. it's much shorter. >> the pilot tried to calm panicked passengers. >> people know we're here. we will be taking care of you just as soon as we can. thanks again for your patience. again, i apologize. >> a similar incident in november when a cargo jet landed at a tiny airport in wichita, kansas.

the guy who was shot said something, i just was texting my daughter, 3-year-old daughter. >> we are now learning the 71-year-old was a retired tampa police officer. and when he got back to his seat, he fought with the couple and pulled out a gun. >> when somebody throws popcorn, i'm not sure who threw the popcorn, then bang, he was shot. he staggered two seats over, fell on my son and i. >> an off-duty officer kept the accused shooter in the theater until police arrived. reeves is in custody and authorities tell us he could be charged with second-degree homicide. steve osunsami, abc news, atlanta. the trial of a former member of the dallas cowboys charged with the death of a former teammate now under way. josh brent crashed his mercedes in december of 2012 killing his close friend and teammate jerry brown. prosecutors say brent's alcohol level was twice the legal limit that night. his attorney says his client wasn't drunk at all. if convicted, he faces 20 years in prison.

also in court yesterday, attorneys for alex rodriguez. they were filing a lawsuit against major league baseball. now also named in their suit which seeks to overturn a-rod's season-long suspension was the baseball union. the suit claims the union acted in bad faith in hearings that led to the suspension. the union called the charges, quote, baseless. >> tens of millions of target customers have been given an apology over the hacking scandal but it is apparently not enough for capitol hill. in a televised interview, the target ceo greg steinhafel apologized directly to customers for the breach and the company's slow response. but democrats in both the house and senate are now calling for hearings, demanding an investigation. an estimated 70 million target customers have been compromised. >> one of the country's oldest and most recognizable brands has been taken over by a japanese company. jim beam. with classic liquor brands it's been marked for the whisky
